Peter Kuzmic:
I am extremely blessed and happy to welcome my newest grandchild into the world.
I spend most of my time in Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia, but also spend a few months a year teaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA. The recent aggression in the Republic of Georgia have been very disturbing to me and other peacemakers in the region. The delicate relationship between Russia and former Soviet states continues to awaken Eastern Europe to reminders that their post-Communist part of the world is still in pain and in need of reconciliation.
I helped set up The Bible College (BTI) in 1972 with 14 students. This has become the Evangelical Theological Seminary (ETS) in Croatia. In the early days, ETS students were persecuted and even imprisoned by communist authorities for their ministry. Now, hundreds of graduates have pioneered churches and other ministries in more than 50 countries. And graduates and faculty are making strategic contributions to freedom, religious liberty and democracy in several countries.
We continue to provide food, clothing, shelter and other humanitarian assistance for a great number of refugees and needy in different areas of our war-torn Balkans. We also conduct prison ministry, provide counseling and psychological assistance, care for orphans, distribute literature for public schools, and hold Christian children and youth camps.
A few months ago, I visited my former student, Alexandar whose new church in Kraljevo was fire-bombed just before Christmas last year. The ministry continues to grow though nationalistic militants continue to present various threats to the congregation. In recent months on this and other church buildings in Serbia, antagonistic graffiti speak of religious hatred and intolerant social climate. Pray for their safety.
