Mike & Eve Brooks (Wycliffe JAARS):
We joined Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT) after serving with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) for 21 years. Mike was a pilot in Papua, Indonesia (16 years), and Kenya (4 years). While serving in Indonesia (1990-1994 and 1998-2010), he flew the Cessna 206 and 208 Caravan, in support of ministry to missionaries, the local church, and community development in Papua. Additional duties included base manager for Sentani Base and manager for national employee affairs for 80+ employees. From 1994 to 1998, he flew the King Air 200 in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC (Zaire), Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Central African Republic. Prior to MAF, he served in the US Air Force flying the KC-135 and KC-10 tanker for 12 years.
Eve volunteered at Hillcrest International School as a speech pathologist for10 years, and provided hospitality to missionaries. She home schooled, extended hospitality to missionaries, and provided consultation for school-aged children needing speech and language therapy.
As part of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Mike will serve as Director of the Aviation Department at the JAARS Center. JAARS (Jungle Aviation and Radio Service) is the aviation and technical branch of Wycliffe Bible Translators, which serves Bible translation work throughout the world. The JAARS Center is located in Wahaw, North Carolina.
We have 5 children that grew up on the mission field. Our oldest child, Charity, lives with her husband Nathan, and daughter Mikaiah in England, where Nathan serves in the US Air Force. The remaining four children, Mark, Glory, Precious-Crystal, and Jeremy are completing university study in North Carolina and Washington, DC.
There are approximately 6,900 languages spoken in the world, however, there still remains 2,200 languages, representing 350 million people that do not have the Bible written in their mother tongue (or heart language). To accelerate the pace, Wycliffe has embarked on Vision 2025, with a goal to start a translation work of the remaining languages by the year 2025. We are excited to be a part of this vision.
