| August Ministry Spotlight: Mount Hope Christian School | |
|---|---|
| Mount Hope Christian School opened its doors in September 1982 as The Christian Center Elementary School in Lexington, Massachusetts, by Rev. Harvey J. Meppelink. From then until now, the vision for quality Christian education has not changed for students pre-school to grade 5. In September of 1995, Elaine Driscoll was appointed as the school’s third principal. She, along with the staff at Mount Hope Christian School, have been offering academic programs that focus on educating the whole child. The school ministry supports the overall ministry of Mount Hope Christian Center, and connects the local community through education. |

‘A step of faith’

“17 years ago I was meeting with Pastor Crosby,” said Discoll. “I didn’t know it at the time, but the Principal of this school was going to go to Florida. I was meeting with him [Pastor Crosby] and asked me if I was interested in filling in as the principal interim. At the time I was a kindergarten teacher in Arlington.” Driscoll worked faithfully that first year and loved it. “Somewhere in March I felt led to look at my contract with Arlington. I realized I had two days to tell the town if I would stay or leave. The Lord told me to resign. I told the pastor, ‘I need to let the town of Arlington know.’ It was quite a step of faith for me.” Driscoll said the fact that she could integrate faith into education was, and still is, amazing. “I could read the word and really apply the faith I’d had for so many years. I see the Lord move a lot here and that is really miraculous. I’ve seen children with learning disabilities come in and leave without it. The thing that excites me most is the more children you have the more you’re reaching. To see lives change, whole families change through the witness of a child. The Lord loves the prayers of a child. ” ‘Excellence is what we’re about’ |
“The highest form of education is the word of God,” shared Driscoll. “The pupil to teacher relationship is low here at Mount Hope. Children are reading above grade level. We tailor our curriculum, and we have an extended amount of enrichment activities during and after school. Excellence is what we’re about, one shouldn’t lack because of the other. It’s a true calling and it’s our mission field.”
According to Driscoll, Mount Hope Christian School aims to graduate Godly men and women of character, draw out their gifted areas and graduate students with character, vision and service.
