October Ministry Spotlight: Global Outreach
The month of October is a special time of year at Mount Hope. It is when the church celebrates, along with other Assemblies of God churches across the country, missions and global outreach. This year’s theme encourages people to pray, give and go.

Currently over 25 nations are represented at Mount Hope. As for local missions’ partners, six are in Massachusetts, six across the rest of the United States, and 19 are currently overseas.

Since 2003, Chiu-Oan Ngooi has been the Global Outreach Team Leader at Mount Hope. Daily, Chiu-Oan is a father and works as a health and safety officer on the medical school campus of Harvard.

Chiu-Oan decided to get involved with Global Outreach at Mount Hope because he wanted to encourage people to consider how they can be a part of what God is doing around the world.

“I know a lot of people who have sacrificed to take themselves out of the secular marketplace,” said Chiu-Oan. “I want people to come alongside them, pray for them and support them financially. To see how God is really working, and for people to live vicariously through other people - it’s not just work for the paycheck in life. It takes us out and gives us perspective in life. We always get encouraged when we hear about what people are doing and it keeps us going.”

At Mount Hope most of the people on the Global Outreach team were born overseas.

“I think our church builds on this strength because we have a lot of international people. We live and have come to accept that this is our new home and we also have another home in heaven. I think this is a good perspective. Not anywhere is our home –we’re passing through.”

Mount Hope pastors have taken on organizing and leading missions’ trips. In the past year Chiu-Oan has been touching base with the partners to find out what they need.

“Longer term we’re looking to see if people will host a missionary when they are in town, cook them meals, or volunteer to pray once a month for missionaries,” added Chiu-Oan. “More significantly over the course of the year how people can help partner with short term missions. It’s both a need and a way for people in the congregation to get involved in the church.”

If you are interested in attending a short term mission trip to Haiti, April 14, 2012 through April 20, 2012, there will be information meetings Sunday, October 9 after the second service and Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m.

This year, Mount Hope is going to hold a Global Outreach celebration banquet after the second service on Oct. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. We will hear from our partners who serve among the Mashpee Wampanoags on Cape Cod, Palestinians in Bethlehem, and in Zimbabwe. The church is also collecting stories to highlight at the banquet.
