If we want to learn something new, we must put in the time and effort needed in order to improve. Whether it be a new language or a new skillset, learning takes practice. It is hard to develop anything new without the practice time. But what about in thechurch? Are there things we should be practicing within the church body?

This week, we hear the final sermon in our 1 John series. John certainly doesn't leave us without a challenge. He points us to the practice of loving one another just as Jesus has instructed us to do in His Word. So, what does it actually look like to practice loving one another? Listen in to learn more about how we can live this command out and practice it through our actions and attitudes.

Someone's last words matter to us. Whether it be a final speech given at a graduation ceremony, what was said to a spouse before they left for work or the precious words spoken before someone we love passes away, final words make a difference. They tend to leave an impression on our hearts and minds.

As we come to a close on our 1 John sermon series, John finishes strong with his final words to us. He speaks to us about idols. But honestly, idols then and now certainly look different. So what is an idol in our culture today? How do we recognize the idols in our life and most importantly, how does the Lord want us to handle these idols? This subject of idolatry is not to be taken lightly as followers of Christ so listen to this week's sermon to know what God has to say about the idols in our own lives.

In the book of 1 John, John is clearly communicating important information to the believers. In this week's sermon, God's Word shows us two crucial points when it comes to eternal life. These points matter in our walk as believers and steer us in the direction of how to walk out our daily Christian lives with those around us.

After you have listened to this week's sermon, continue the conversation by discussing the following questions with fellow believers:

  1. What would the life of a person who knows they have eternal life look like?
  2. Is there any place in your life you need to change to live more like that?

There seems to be two camps of people in this world -- rule followers and rule breakers. Some want to walk the line to a tee while others might tend to see how far they can bend that line. As followers of Christ, we are aware that there are commands to be followed in God's Word. Also as followers of Christ, we know there are times when we break those commands and don't always "follow the rules". So how does God handle this with us? How do we approach Him when we have failed to follow his commands and sinned against Him? In the book of 1 John, God clearly speaks to us and instructs us in how we are to approach Him when it comes to the sin in our lives. We all break the rules, but we have a Father who makes a way for us to be forgiven and shows us how to walk out a life confidently in Him.

“You are what you eat.” We’ve often heard that as a reminder that what we consume determines who we are and how we interact with the world around us. How we fuel ourselves, determines the challenges we are able to face. In our Christian journey, challenges abound. We’re often pushed up against circumstances that push us to our breaking point. In those moments, what is inside of us will determine how we handle these moments. John reminds us that as Christ followers, we must abide in Christ. However, today we’ll consider God’s promise that as we abide in Him, He abides in us. And as He does, we are able to rise to the challenges around us.

Has there ever been a time in your life when you thought something was going to go one away and then it took a turn in a another direction? Or maybe you thought you were going to have one conversation with someone and it turned into a different conversation altogether? This happens in life with practical situations but it also happens in the life of a believer when it comes to sin. We don't want to face it or be confronted with it but we must as followers of Christ. This week, in our 1 John Series, there are two important areas that must be addressed when it comes to sin in our own lives and sin in the lives of those around us.
